At hatch. we are committed to using renewable energy wherever we can, using energy efficient processes, materials and through a conscious reduction in all our carbon emissions. We are currently working on an Active Buildings housing strategy for our revolutionary CLiCs low-rise and medium-rise product.
What is an Active Building?
An Active Building can essentially produce and store renewable energy to meet their own needs or more. The next generation of hatch. Active Buildings (h.AB) will be more sustainable, perform better and will help contribute to UK decarbonisation.

De-carbonisation strategy
A recent IPCC report states the building and construction sector must decarbonise by 2050 to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. The importance of cutting carbon in major infrastructure projects – in addition to the construction and operation of buildings – is increasingly being recognised.
The hatch. goal is to help create quality and low carbon homes using considerate construction methods.
hatch. are achieving this through:
- Reduction in the number of lorries to site
- Reduction in the number of days on site
- Reduction in the amount of waste to landfill
A hatch. precision manufactured home carefully considers the environment from the outset through to the total lifecycle of the building.
h.UD (hatch. Urban Developer)
h.UD is a web-based project optioneering tool, that utilises real-time plot data to model how schemes can be placed and developed on any given site. Using hatch. modules to build the scheme out (akin to Minecraft) enables live construction costs and viability testing for multiple design iterations.
This can radically transform optioneering and highlight how hatch.’s dedication to process optimisation is delivering tangible returns for clients. Already deployed for a major NHS Trust in exploring options for a circa 200 unit scheme, we now welcome enquiries from clients keen to understand how this tool can assist their endeavours.
